The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District (OCMVCD) has confirmed the first mosquito sample infected with West Nile virus (WNV) in the City of Buena Park.
The mosquitoes were collected in a routine mosquito trap located on the corner of Crescent Ave. and Western Ave. on August 7.
OCMVCD inspectors will be closely monitoring the area and will report any additional findings. Remember, most individuals infected with WNV will not experience any illness. Others will have flu-like symptoms, such as fever, headache and body aches. In severe cases, people will need to be hospitalized, and in rare cases the disease can be fatal.
