The application for the 2019 Service Academy Congressional Nomination is now available.
High school is an important moment in a child’s life to discover the vast career paths that await them, from career technical education, military service, to one of the nation’s top universities and community colleges. Out of the many options, students will have the opportunity to attend one the nation’s service academies: U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis), U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marines Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
The service academies provide an educational opportunity that is at par with the most prestigious educational institutions in the country for an experience provided at no cost to the student. These academies dually prepare the nation’s top students to serve the country and to face the challenges of adult life. After graduating from the academy, they will be commissioned for a minimum of five years as an active officer of the uniformed services.
Interested students must complete an application with their respective academy of choice and will need to pass a physical aptitude test, be a U.S. citizen, and be an unmarried high school graduate between the ages of 17 and 23, with no dependents. Members of Congress serve as a nominating source, a requirement for most applicants. To Receive a Congressional nomination from the office of Congresswoman Linda T. Sanchez, students interested in applying must carefully complete the application and attach the additional documents stated in the application instructions. The submission deadline is Friday, October 18, 2019.
