There is evidence everywhere that times change and Fullerton School District is keeping up with the times. New this year to the Fullerton School District (FSD) are SCRATCH foods made fresh daily. FSD has a chef on staff who develops new recipes that are reviewed by a Registered Dietitian and then served at school.
Here is a look at some new menu items offered at FSD elementary schools. Kicken’ Korean Meatballs served with a sauce made from scratch that are slightly sweet with a hint of spice. Hummus served as a cold entre with whole grain crackers is a great vegetarian option and wildly popular with students. Asian rice was created to give flavor to plain brown rice and is served with other menu items such as Orange Chicken and Korean Meatballs. For junior high school students, freshly made turkey or hams sandwiches are offered daily along with a different salad or wrap. SCRATCH salads offered are Garden Chicken Salad, Turkey Taco Salad, or BBQ Chicken Salad.
Not to be forgotten are two new menu items that are rice recipes provided by parents through the FSD Rice Recipe Contest. The items, Mrs. G’s Mexican Red Rice and When Egg Met Rice are also offered to students and have been very well received.
