Every year, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction names extraordinary educators as California Teachers of the Year. Fullerton School District is pleased to be the home of one of the finalists for the 2019 Teacher of the Year, Andrea Calvo. Ms. Calvo is a music teacher at Ladera Vista Junior High School of the Arts.
Each year, local school districts submit names of nominees to the County offices of education. The Ladera Vista Junior High School of the Arts Principal submitted Ms. Calvo as a candidate from Fullerton School District. Through fierce competition, the Orange County Department of Education nominated Ms. Calvo to move on the state level with the California Teachers of the Year. The review process included applications and site visits to evaluate the teachers’ rapport with students, classroom environment, presentation skills, and teaching techniques. As a one of seven finalists, Ms. Calvo will be honored by Tom Torlakson (State Superintendent of Public Instruction) at a dinner at the Disneyland Hotel in early November and again at a gala held in Sacramento on December 10, 2018.
