  • Fullerton Museum Center Provides Community with Kids Art Kits and More

The Fullerton Museum Center Responds to Urgent COVID-19 Need with kids art kits, online museum resources, and community outreach, and Joining #GivingTuesdayNow in Global Day of Giving and Unity

The Fullerton Museum Center is responding to meet the needs of the arts community by providing free, online museum programming, community outreach and hands on art kits for children.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.

The Fullerton Museum Center serves over 6,000 school children every year with docent tours and hands on art activities. The vast majority of these students are from Fullerton School District and participate free of charge.

Donations from both individuals and nonprofit agencies allowed Fullerton Museum Center to bus over 2,000 students in school year 2018/2019. This would not be possible without the hard work of volunteer educators from the community who lead tours, instruct classes, and assist with arts and crafts activities both at the museum and at events throughout the city. The docents also lead "Wings Over Fullerton" Airport Tours for Fullerton School District students in grades 3, 4, and 5, in which students learn about aviation careers, the physics of flight, and local history in an action packed half day program.

During the COVID-19 shutdown, the museum has been providing free arts and crafts kits for 100 kids weekly, as well as making our exhibits and education programs available online for museum goers worldwide to enjoy from home.

“In troubling times, we turn to the arts for inspiration, solace, and meaning," says Museum Educator Aimee Aul. “The Fullerton Museum Center’s commitment to the best in arts programming is especially vital as our community struggles with the COVID-19 crisis. Our ongoing work in exhibitions, education, and event need to be stronger than ever as we navigate or post-COVID reality.”

People can show their generosity in a variety of ways during #GivingTuesdayNow, whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes, every act of generosity counts. The global movement will emphasize opportunities to give back to communities and causes in safe ways that allow for social connection even while practicing physical distancing.

“As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another. We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, and to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services that are crucial to the care and support of our communities,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday. “#GivingTuesdayNow is a chance for us to stand united and use grassroots generosity to show that we are all in this together, beginning to end. Even as many face financial uncertainty, generosity is not about size. From calling an elderly neighbor to chat to offering translation help; from showing gratitude to our healthcare workers to donating to your local food bank, every act of kindness is a beacon of hope in this crisis. We all have something to give, and every act of human consideration and kindness matters.”
